According to Giving USA, giving by corporations totaled $16.88 billion in 2020.¹ Adjusted for inflation, this represented a 7.3% decrease in 2020 compared with 2019.

In 2020, U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declined 2.3 percent over 2019, an economic indicator that has been found to affect corporate giving. Similarly, corporate pre-tax profits declined 3.5 percent compared to 2019.

Employee Giving

The average annual employee donation per worker is $724.2 By comparison, the average annual company match per full-time employee is $690. Trends indicate that employees are more likely to engage at a higher rate with workplace programs that offer both giving and volunteering opportunities. In general, trends in workplace giving harmonize with generational trends, showing that older Americans and retirees give more—almost 4.5 times more per year in donated dollars compared to full-time employees.
